Do you know what it feels like to get robbed for the shoes on your feet? Unfortunately Anthony Cupp, a 13 year old Detroit Native, knows exactly how that feels. Just a week before Thanksgiving Anthony was robbed for his KDs and had to walk home in the snow without them. For Anthony those KDs were everything to him. With most of his family’s income going to his mother’s tumor-removal therapy, Anthony saved up his hard earned money last summer to buy himself a pair of his favorite player’s signature shoes, Kevin Durant.
Word spread of this incident and eventually made its way to the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons then brought the story to Kevin Durant who then set up a meeting with Anthony prior to last nights game in Detroit. During the meeting KD gave Anthony two pairs of signed KDs, one in KD’s size and the other in Anthony’s. Alongside those two pairs of shoes he was also given a KD jacket and backpack. It looks like Anthony’s life just took a turn of events that he’ll never forget.
Kevin told NewsOK following the talk between him and Anthony, “We got such a big platform, man, and kids look up to us. To set a good example, we just have to show them that we’re human, too. They look at us as superheroes sometimes. So just to sit and talk to them, ask them how their day went, ask them where they’re from, make them feel like they are where they belong. We may seem untouchable, but we aren’t. That’s the biggest thing I wanted to show him. I’m a human just like you. I go through things just like you. Even though I play in the NBA, I’m here for you.”
