How could one of the most comfortable Nike shoes of all time be made even better? The answer is simple. Make it more comfortable. And that is just what Nike did earlier last month. The 1987 classic was the first in the brand’s history to install visible air ‘windows’ in the rear of the sneaker’s midsole. This innovation later went on to inspire many other athletic sneakers with the goal of reducing impact and increasing comfort in style.
As the years have passed, we’ve seen many renditions of this model reappear, but none quite like this. The most recent take on the Air Max 1 replaces the upper with seamless mesh panels for exaggerated air-flow and breathability. The midsole, originally made of a dense Phylon material, is switched out for Lunarlon foam. Lunarlon material is 30% lighter than the conventional midsole, more flexible, and evenly distributes the wearers weight upon impact. The visible air unit, traditional red and white outfitting, and waffle grip outsole, have all remained unchanged to preserve the celeb news sneakers timeless look. Although already released, pairs in select sizes are still available here.
