2014 Air Jordan VI ‘Infrared’
What more can be said about this sneaker? The Air Jordan VI, specifically in the Black/Black-Infrared colorway is the most historically important shoe of Michael Jordan’s career. Once you tie them up and fasten the lace locks, one walks around feeling just how Michael Jordan felt right after he was awarded his first ring in in 1991, like a champion. Not only has this sneaker been made iconic for nostalgic reasons, but also for its stylish aesthetics and functionality. The Air Jordan VI is one of the selected few models in his line of sneakers to have access to the visible air technology which revolutionized the sneaker industry.

This silhouette was also the second to initially introduce the translucent outsole which quickly became popularized by sneaker enthusiast and basketball players. The most distinguishing aspect of the 1991 classic was the contrasting black leather upper with accents of blinding pinkish-red and reflective 3m details buried deep within its perforations.

It is because of this shoe that over time the ‘Infrared’ colorway has become a rite of passage for many collectors. This year marks the 23rd anniversary of the Air Jordan VI and Jordan Brand is celebrating in a big way. For years we have been teased by mimicries of the ‘Infrared’ colorway in which Jordan VI silhouettes are released, getting as close as they can to the true infrared hue without hitting it on the nose. In fact the last real ‘Infrared’ retro was the 2000 re-release.
The wait is finally coming to a close. Lately, pictures have been floating around of a 2014 sample, and they do look promising. This go-around, the midsole, lace locks, rear pull tabs, and Jumpman are true infrared. Unlike its 2009 and 2010 counterparts, the body of the sneaker does not consist of suede, but is a nubuck material. Lastly, staying true to the original profile, it will feature accents of 3m. This up and coming release is rumored to hit retailers on Black Friday.
