Sales Analysis: Air Jordan 29 “Team Orange” - Can New Models Still Hold Their Own?

Considering Jordan Brand caters to the Air Jordan line primarily with its 1-14 models, newer sneaker heads haven’t seen too many of the later designs. On the contrary, Jordan Brand has been releasing new silhouettes into the numbered line and they haven’t been nearly as well received as the classics.

Fresh off the heels of the Air Jordan XX8 which sat on shelves and hit the sales rack is the new Air Jordan XX9 with even more technology and a slightly lower price point. In a world full of retro releases which sell out fairly fast on a regular basis, did the new Air Jordan XX9 do well at retailers and even better on the resale market? ShoeFax is bringing out sales data on the Air Jordan XX9 “Team Orange” before and after the September 6th release.

Avg Price. $274.42

Jordan Brand released the first few color ways of the new Air Jordan XX9 just a few short months ago in September and the classic elephant print played a role in both. The sneaker initially released through retailers at a retail price of $225, and the sneaker went into the market for $325 on average.

Pairs took a while to sell and to this day, the Gym Red color way still hasn’t sold out. This Team Orange color way took an extreme dip in value within the first few weeks of becoming available, going from $325 to approximately $275. An even lower drop occurred in October but since then, the price has been on a slight rise.

The chart below shows that the Sell-through percentage of the listings were moderate at 59.83% with hundreds of pairs hitting the market. The demand of the sneaker quickly decreased to the $275 range which is not much higher than retail + tax which resulted in little to no profit for many sellers on average.

Regardless, the sneaker still sold out and is on the rise in value so the sneaker has set a few milestones. On top of fetching almost 1.5x the price before it released, the new Air Jordan model received a drop in value but still remained above retail, even maintaining a higher price over a month later.
